Watch closely as Lauren walks in and then out of the Apple store - how far does the guy walking by get before she comes out again!?

The one thing I learned from digitising my wedding video from 8mm PAL to SD NTSC on my first gen Intel white MacBook was that you should always capture and edit from an external Hard Drive. I know this goes against your workflow idea, but HD video is very large and messy and it's just a better idea to protect your main laptop drive then prematurely abuse it. If you've managed to get a Firewire enclosure, you'll notice that Firewire piggybacks very well between drives, devices and computers. It's much much smoother than the USB connection on my old Dell. I even used this setup to capture my brother's concert in the summer, it made the move to post-product so smooth and he got to walk away with the camera and tape at the end of the show.

As for all of iMovie'09 faults, just be glad you're not using iMovie'08. They through the baby out with the bath water when they moved up from iMovie'07 and it looks like they are rebuilding their consumer video editing suite piece by piece. It's still no way near as cool as Final Cut Pro, but then again it's only one of 5 elements in an $80 package if you didn't get it for free on you new MacBook. And let's never forget that it's miles ahead of Windoes Movie Mulcher.
